At Fatima, the supernatural event that gives rise to the sanctuary, comprises the apparitions of our Lady the three children, Lúcia de Jesus Santos and her cousins, Francisco Marto and Jacinta Marto, between May 13 and October 13, 1917.
The Church's credibility of the apparitions of Fatima was declared by the Bishop of Leiria, in Pastoral letter of October 13, 1930: "we have to declare, as credible, the visions of the children at Cova da Iria, parish of Fátima, this diocese on May 13 to October 1917 and officially allow the cult of our Lady of Fatima". ´
